St. Eligius is the Patron Saint of goldsmiths and metal workers, most noted for his talent, honesty and compassion. He was born in Limoges, France and from an early age revealed an unusual talent in craftsmanship. Eligius lived from 588 to 660 and is buried at Noyon. He was an apprentice under the noted goldsmith Abbo, master of the mint at Limoges and came to be one of the best craftsmen of his time.
